A senior Iranian official says the death of fugitive Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi should serve as a lesson to other despots in the world.

Head of Iran's Administrative Justice Court Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said on Monday that a grim fate similar to that of Gaddafi awaits all dictators, ISNA reported.

Speaking at a news conference in the capital Tripoli last Thursday, Libya's Interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril confirmed that Muammar Gaddafi had been killed after he was captured in Sirte.

"We confirm that all the evils, plus Gaddafi, have vanished from this beloved country. I think it's for the Libyans to realize that it's time to start a new Libya, a united Libya, one people, one future," he said.

Libya's new rulers on Sunday declared the country freed from Gaddafi's 42-year authoritarian rule, as thousands of Libyans waved the new national flag.
