Syria under 'unprecedented pressure' – PM
Nov 12, 2011 21:12 Moscow Time
Syria believes the mounting outside pressure on it is aimed at undermining its national unity.
Prime Minister Adel Safar told this to Russian Patriarch Kirill in Damascus on Saturday hours after the Arab League suspended his country from membership, accusing it of backtracking from undertakings to refrain from violence against the opposition.
The Arab League members had also decided to withdraw their ambassadors from Syria and consider imposing sanctions on it.
Two members, Yemen and Lebanon, voted against the Syria motion. Syria points out that the Arab League Charter recognizes only consensus decisions as valid.
