Dear Colleague:
Warmest good wishes to you.
Your esteemed Religions for Peace colleague, His Grace Rev. Dr. John Onaiyekan, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria, will be elevated to the rank of Cardinal by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
Please join me in extending heartfelt congratulations and prayerful good wishes to Cardinal-designate John from the global Religions for Peace network. We wish him success in his new position. We are especially grateful that his new responsibilities will give him many opportunities to continue to advance his commitment to principled multi-religious cooperation for the common good.
As one of Africa's major religious leaders, Archbishop John is an outstanding peacemaker whose service to others is marked by courage, compassion and distinction.
Archbishop John continues to serve as a Co-President of Religions for Peace. In 2003, he was elected by senior religious leaders in Africa to Co-Chair the African Council of Religious Leaders – Religions for Peace. In both positions, Archbishop John has been at the forefront of advancing multi-religious cooperation for peace.
In August, Archbishop John was awarded the 2012 Pax Christi International Peace Award for his tireless efforts in promoting understanding and dialogue in Africa among people of different faiths. He is a true ambassador of peace.
Archbishop John will be installed as a Cardinal in a Consistory at the Vatican on 24 November 2012. Please know that your own expressions of congratulations would be warmly welcomed and can be directed (post 24 November) to Cardinal John at the address below.
With appreciation for our partnership, I remain
Sincerely,
New Dr. Vendley Signature
